The City of Mt. Pleasant Receives Redevelopment Ready Community Certification

by Kati Mora on March 19, 2019

Earlier this month we had the high honor to host a reception at our office to celebrate the City of Mt. Pleasant’s achievement of becoming a certified Redevelopment Ready Community.

Many community members and representatives from across the state of Michigan joined us to congratulate the City staff and elected officials on completing the certification process.

The process itself usually takes years of hard work to complete. Communities must develop best practices to attract and retain businesses while also streamlining the development approval process to ensure the community is truly ready for both redevelopment and new development opportunities. Improved customer service also is emphasized throughout the process.

According to the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the Redevelopment Ready Community certification is “a formal recognition that a community has a vision for the future and the fundamental practices in place to get there.”

We’re excited to see what doors this new certification will open and appreciate the commitment many in our community have made to ensure this is a vibrant and thriving place to live, work and play.

Jim McBryde, President and CEO of Middle Michigan Development Corporation, praised the City of Mt. Pleasant for being the first city in MEDC’s eight-county Region 5 to be certified. He stated, "this was a lot of work, a lot of effort, and I don't think you will ever regret going through this process. Kudos to everyone who helped the city get to this point.
