Lansing, Michigan – March 8, 2023 – Representative Matt Hall (R-Richland Township) is recognized as a 2023 Legislative Economic Development Champion (LEDC) by the Michigan Economic Developers Association (MEDA). He accepted the award on March 7th during the Association’s Capitol Day event at the Lansing Center in Lansing, Michigan.
MEDA is a professional society with members throughout the state that attract and grow business, create, and retain jobs, and make our communities a better place to live. The Awards were developed in 2020 by the Association to recognize legislators that show a passion for championing economic development work by assisting economic development efforts that affect the entire state, assisting with local economic development projects, championing support for funding related to economic development programs and services, participating with their local economic development organization, or sponsoring economic development legislation. Three other legislators from Michigan’s House of Representatives and Senate were awarded in 2023.
Representative Hall’s nomination came from James McBryde, President and CEO, Middle Michigan Development Corporation. Representative Hall, a Republican from the 42nd District, was recently elected House Minority Leader for the 2023-2024 term which also is his third term. When Matt Hall first arrived in Lansing, he made it clear that he wanted to make life “more affordable for Michiganders, attracting high-paying careers of the future, and building stronger and safer communities.” In his second term, Matt Hall took on a leadership role as the Republican Caucus Chair. He also chaired the House Tax Policy Committee and worked across the aisle to secure House passage of the Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve (SOAR) Fund. For his work in getting SOAR passed, the Michigan Manufacturers Association named him “Legislator of the Year” in 2022. Last term, Matt Hall also introduced House Bill 5601, the Research and Development Tax Credit, and he spearheaded a number of tax reductions to lower costs for small businesses in Michigan. Rep. Matt Hall truly has been a great friend to economic development throughout his legislative career.
We look forward to Representative Hall’s continued leadership in championing economic development policy for Michigan.
