The Value of the Veteran (Power Point). In this presentation, prepared by Dave Dunckel, CBSP, highlights some of the employment initiatives taking place to attract veteran talent to Michigan and identifies tangible ways in which employers can recruit and retain veteran employees. This presentation also addresses some of the common misconceptions associated with returning veterans and highlights the true value veterans can offer to your place of business.
Michigan Works! offers programs and incentives to assist companies with their job training needs. Programs include: customized recruitment, pre-screen job applicants, basic skills assessment, on the job training, employment events, mentorship and assistance using MiTalent Connect and the Skilled Trades Training Fund. It is the one stop shop for employer job training resources!
Pure Michigan Talent Connect
Pure Michigan Talent Connect is a collaborative effort of the State of Michigan’s Workforce Development Agency with the Talent Investment Agency and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. It is an online marketplace connecting Michigan’s job seekers and employers, and serves as a central hub linking all public and private stakeholders who support Michigan’s workforce. Pure Michigan Talent Connect serves as the state’s launching pad for both employers and job seekers pursuing new jobs, careers and talent.
Michigan Small Business Development Center
The Michigan Small Business Development Center is a network that provides a full range of services for emerging and growing small businesses throughout Michigan. This includes new venture companies, existing small businesses, expanding businesses, new technology companies and innovators. Our local SBDC is affiliated with Mid Michigan Community College and provides services and support to businesses in Clare and Isabella Counties. SBDC focuses on business startups, business plan development, business workshops, financial management, market research, raising capital, research, technology commercialization and export assistance. All services are available at low or no cost because of the support of the U.S. Small Business Administration and local partners.

CMU College of Business Administration
Central Michigan University’s College of Business Administration is a premier business college serving more than 2,300 students. The college offers an innovative, high quality, business-connected degree programs through the School of Accounting and the Departments of Business Information Systems, Economics, Finance and Law, Management, and Marketing and Hospitality Services Administration. The college recently added a $210,000 Bloomberg Trading Lab which allows students to monitor and analyze real-time financial market data and practice making trades on an electronic trading platform like those used on Wall Street. The historic Grawn Hall, home to the College of Business Administration, will soon be getting a $10.8 million renovation and expansion. Improvements will include a 6,600-square-foot, two-story addition on its west side and major enhancements to leading programs such as sales, logistics, entrepreneurship, and information systems.
CMU College of Medicine
The College of Medicine was established to address a growing shortage of physicians that will increase to 6,000 doctors statewide by 2020. The college’s mission is one of providing access to improved health care and increasing the supply of general practice physicians in medically underserved areas with a particular focus on training future doctors who will practice in central and northern Michigan. College of Medicine students spend their first two years of study on CMU’s main campus in a state-of-the-art 60,000-square-foot-facillty. A $25 million, 46,000-square-foot College of Medicine educational facility recently opened in Saginaw to educate third-and fourth-year medical students and residents. The students also are placed with a variety of health care provides across the state. Now in its third year, 85% of the students are from Michigan.
CMU School of Engineering and Technology
Central Michigan University’s School of Engineering and Technology offers six 4-year Bachelor of Science degrees: Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology and Product Design Engineering Technology. They also offer a thesis-based graduate degree: Masters of Science in Engineering. The School’s faculty conduct research in bio-engineering, including biomaterials, biomechanics and biofluids, robotics and automation, micro-fabrication of devices, virtual reality system development, high-performance computing, numerical electromagnetics, haptics, vibrations and advanced materials characterization. Job placement rates are well above 90% with the vast majority of graduates choosing to start their careers in the State of Michigan.

CMURC is a nonprofit business incubator focused on advancing economic development in the community by leveraging the resources of Central Michigan University, the Mount Pleasant SmartZone, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s 21st Century Jobs Trust Fund. Mid Michigan Community College
Mid Michigan Community College is a public community college founded in 1965, with full service locations and technical education centers in Harrison and Mt. Pleasant. The College offers one and two-year certificates and associate degrees in transfer, occupational, tech and trade, and health science programs. MMCC prides itself on offering an affordable education that prepares students for a career or transfer to a university.
Mid Michigan Community College Workforce Training
MMCC offers a wide variety of technical training programs that benefit to the middle Michigan business community. The locations in Mt. Pleasant and Harrison provide students with hands-on technical training, certification, internship opportunities, and skills development. Training programs are developed in conjunction with industry partners and include industrial trades, CAD, welding, CNC, plastics and more. Customized training is also available to meet specific business needs.
Saginaw Chippewa Tribal College
